FishWA does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. We do not require account creation, login, or any personally identifiable information.
When you select a fishing location, FishWA uses the coordinates of that pre-defined location to fetch weather, tide, and condition data from third-party APIs. These are pre-defined Washington State fishing locations, not your personal GPS position.
If GPS features are enabled in a future update, location access will require your explicit permission and will only be used locally on your device to find nearby fishing areas. Your location will never be transmitted to our servers (we don't have any).
FishWA makes requests to the following third-party services to display fishing condition data:
These services may log IP addresses according to their own privacy policies. FishWA does not control how these third parties handle network requests.
Photo identification. When you use Fish ID, the photo you submit is sent to Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash service to identify the species. We do not run our own server; the photo travels directly from your device to Google. Google's use of submitted content is governed by Google's Generative AI Terms.
Location metadata. If a photo contains EXIF GPS data, that location is read on your device only and is not transmitted with the photo to Google or anyone else.
Photo retention on your device. Photos you capture inside Fish ID are saved to your device's photo library after you close the result screen, so you keep a copy of your catch. We do not retain a copy ourselves.
Permissions. Camera and photo library access is used exclusively for Fish ID. No other part of FishWA reads from the camera or photo library, and nothing leaves your device except the image bytes you explicitly submit to Gemini.
FishWA stores cached condition data and your selected location preference locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you clear the app's cache or uninstall the app.
FishWA does not include any analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, advertising frameworks, or tracking technologies of any kind. We do not track your usage, behavior, or any other activity.
FishWA does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences interested in fishing in Washington State.
FishWA is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, which have their own privacy policies governing the download and installation process.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected both in the app and on this page. Your continued use of FishWA after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have questions about this privacy policy, please open an issue on our GitHub repository.
